Personality Time!

So, working in a new department, meeting new people, learning all sorts of new routines, keeping very busy.  One of the fun things we've done, though, is at one of the staff meetings we have each month, people have been taking personality, communication style, etc. tests to get to know each other and each other's work styles a bit better.  Here are my two from this month's meeting:

Haven't posted one of these in a while

But this one was worth sharing :)  The Nerd Test!

I scored much as I thought I would - high in the Science/Math, and History/Literature categories, and crazy-high on Sci-Fi/Comic.  I'm average in Technology/Computer dorkage (most of that knowledge is second-hand for me, so that's understandable).  And apparently I'm not as awkward as I think I am!  Or at least in comparison to other folk taking this test.

And as I final thought, I like my scoring title:  Cool Nerd Queen!

Honestly, though, I don't know if Scruffers if bright enough to plot. I think it's more likely that we'll be taken out by the 20-lb doofus as he charges at our ankles in an attempt to beat us to the closet where we keep his kibble. I don't know why he doesn't learn that tripping us up doesn't get his food to him any faster. I'm just glad we don't live in a 2-story house right now, where he would charge past us on the staircase.

Then again, he might decide that we've had him on his diet too long and seek his revenge. Sorry, Scruffers, we know you're big, but 17 pounds is where you should be and we're gonna keep you there, not at 20! Portion control!

A reason to celebrate!

In case you didn't know, Agatha Christie's birthday is September 15. So, great literary minds have determined the week of September 13-20 to be officially designated "Agatha Christie week" in honor of the birthday of the Queen of Crime.

My aunt, another murder mystery buff, told me about this glorious reason for celebration. She and a friend decided that ways to celebrate could include Belgian chocolate, a good cup of tea, knitting, and devising ways to get away with murder. Am totally up for any celebration that includes 3 of my favorite things! (In case you were confused, I was referring to the chocolate, tea and knitting, not the murder!)

I think what prompted that discussion was this link my aunt found - The Guardian (British newspaper) is celebrating the week with blogs, podcasts and top 10s throughout the week. They kick it off with a pretty good quiz on Christie knowledge.

Yes, I did get 11 of 11, if you were wondering. I don't know if I'd have any excuse to get less, considering the number of Christie books on my shelf :)

Any movie buffs out there?

UPenn has a Positive Psycology program which "focuses on the empirical study of such things as positive emotions, strengths-based character, and healthy institutions." Basicall, they are studying ways to be happier. They look at how to feel more satisfied, more engaged with life, regardless of one’s circumstances, and they are also looking at how this affects depression symptoms. Obviously, after two years of torture here in my thankless job, this is interesting to me!

Anyway, the site also has questionnaires, as well as information. How Happy Are You? Work-Life Satisfaction (yeah, that one was low), Appreciation of the Past, Optimism for the Future, you get the idea. One of the questionnaires was a big long one, looking at Character Strengths. There are 24 Strengths that they looked at, and after answering a big long list of questions, looked at how you ranked with these particular character attributes. Here's how I ranked:

la, la, la....
