Tired

It has been a hard week.

Last Friday, my sister in law lost the twins. She actually went into labor last week. Only at 21 weeks, the babies were not able to survive. After the first one came, they doctors tried very hard to save the second, but they couldn't save the baby without putting her at risk too.

Tuesday, yesterday, was the day of the funeral. The boys were laid to rest next to Zach and Russ's grandmother, who passed away the year before last. They will be well looked after there, though that doesn't make saying goodbye any easier for the family.

Also on Tuesday, a shooting spree took place in Appomattox, just down the road from Zach's other grandmother's house. The shooter turned himself in to the police this morning, but only after killing 8 people, injuring others, and taking down a police helicopter. None of our friends or family were injured, thank God, but we have been watching the news very closely, as all Zach's family does live out there, and my sister works in the schools in the same area.

It is something additionally stressful about living out here, being so far away from family if anything happens. Most of the time it's only an inconvenience, but there are times when it actually makes you feel trapped and helpless, because if you were at least in the same time zone you could help more or worry less somehow.

I know this post probably sounds abrupt and probably pretty cold, but it is hard to write about a lot of this. If I ever feel like talking about things here, there might be more, but now I will just put it out here as a simple prayer request. For my brother- and sister-in-law, for the rest of the family, for the community of Appomattox. All are going through very difficult times right now, and need any spare strength and comfort you could send their way.

Thank you.
