Finally getting around to those New Year's resolutions

So the new year has been kinda rough so far. Both Zach and I were sick for New Year's itself (no, we didn't party too hard - got sick on New Year's Eve and then just stayed sick) Stupid bugs. We were supposed to go down to the coast for the weekend, too. Being a 4-day and all, we wanted to enjoy it, escape the desert for a little. Instead, we slept, and read, and watched movies - barely moved off the couches. Didn't even have the traditional ham & black-eyed peas for New Year's Day dinner (it's a southern thing, apparently - Mom always made us do it). Nice and lazy and restful, but very frustrating when we were hoping to actually see civilization for a bit. Not what I had in mind for a holiday weekend :\

Feeling better now, though, and starting to think about the year to come. I was only so-so on my resolutions from last year, so I think I'm gonna just keep them up for 2009. To refresh:
  • The work-out thing. I was doing well until summer hit last year. The whole 120+ degree days in the summer made it VERY hard to stay motivated. So, I'm gonna try to keep it up this year, even through the heat. They recently opened a new gym right next to where I work (fixed up an old one, really, but it's veeery nice now). Going to try and be very consistent about going after work, since I can't use the excuse that working out is out of my way :)
  • Sub-resolution: I'm seriously thinking of running my first marathon this year. I know it's a veeeery long way to run, but I think having such a big goal will help keep me on track with my workouts. One of those "well, I've already registered for it - gotta train for it now so I don't kill myself on the course" I'm thinking of the San Diego Rock & Roll Marathon in May - keep me training right up to the summer (maybe the habit will stick, then). Have run Rock & Roll 1/2 Marathons in VB (where I grew up), and am running the Phoenix half on the 18th. Figure a good, fun one like those will be good to keep me motivated through a whole marathon :)
  • Still trying to use up stash. Am making a concerted effort to work in yarn I already have. No new yarn except for gifts and swaps! No purchases!! Figure it will give Zach less reason to fuss about yarn all over the house, if I'm actually using it up :)
  • I still feel like I could be better about keeping in touch with folk. The stupid time difference makes it hard sometimes - we're just getting off work here, and folk back east are heading to bed. Will be depending on my computer a lot then. E-mail, blog, Flickr, Facebook - all that good stuff. Like I saw a little cartoon say: "I love my computer, because all my friends live in it."
So, here we go! Maybe I'll be better in 2009 than in '08. :)
